This is one of the many wild, yet friendly donkeys that wander the island. This one hung around our hotel. We named him Paco. Be prepared to see many donkeys.
The restaurants are also plentiful and friendly too. Chibi- Chibi is expensive but the view is nice. Lori and I tended to hit the cheaper joints. The Old Inn across from the Plaza Resort is laid back and cheap. Good place for breakfast. Our favorite place was the City Cafe good food, good service, and nice view of the harbor. A good mix of locals and tourists. Try the Peanut Chicken-yum.

The Island is very desert like. You are missing out if you don't drive around the island. It is mostly covered with cactus. Driving on the back roads was an adventure. The rental cars on the island are mostly Toyota pickup trucks. You need them ! The Baja has nothing on Bonaire.
Lori had no problem relaxing on the pier in front of the hotel - Bellafonte Chateau de la Mer. The hotel was wonderful. Our room was very spacious about 1200 sq ft. The balcony was big enough to have a small dinette table, grill, and two lounge chairs. We consumed plenty of wine and cheese as we watched the sun set every night.
I was relaxed also.
This is one of the old slave huts on the beach.

This is a small school of blue tangs. Diving was easy and plentiful. All the Toyota pickups came with tank racks built into the truck bed. There is a dive site probably every half mile on the leeward side of Bonaire. The farther north you go the more pristine the sites get.
Here is a school of
grunts.
The coral at Andrea 1 was the best we came across on the island.
